The Shape of Things to Come

The following is a list of topics that I would like to cover, am in the process of covering, or will continue covering this year:

  • Parts 2-4 of Interpersonal Relations in a Post-Modern World
  • The construction and experience of gender in hardcore (a continuation of my qualitative research project. Seeking to expand both in participants as well as what's being explored)
  • A qualitative (I'm hesitant to say existential because I'm not entirely sure where it will go past what I've already done) critique of the DSM. Either a genealogy of how it has evolved thus far, or a critical look at the making of DSM-V. I've already started the latter, but am more interested in exploring the former and eventually connecting it with current (DSM-V-related) issues
  • An update on my Nietzschean master/slave morality papers. They're fairly limited in depth and scope, and are overdue for a reworking and expansion
  • A thorough, referenced essay that spells out what I learned in Criminal Psychopathology regarding the formation of the serial violent offender
  • An exploration of pornography in post-modern culture. Violent pornography was my initial plan, but we'll see where it goes
  • Something about 1984. I don't know what. But I need to write about 1984
  • An essay dealing with semiotics and the problem of language. Probably focusing mostly on Levi-Strauss, Žižek, and Wittgenstein (if I get around to him). I'll also throw in either Derrida or Lacan... I can't recall which I wanted in this one. Really, I don't want the existing theorists and authors to be the focus of the paper. I'd rather it be a broad exploration with some theorizing of my own thrown in there. I'll use the aforementioned names throughout the initial illustration so as to paint as clear a picture as possible, and use that as a springboard for whatever weirdo way I end up tying it into popular culture
  • Something about India. I'll have to go back over my dozens and dozens of pages of India notes to remind myself what specifically is of interest to me for this. I may actually write historically for this one, as I tended to be especially engaged in learning about India's history (Ashoka and the Mughal Empire both come to mind). Actually, I've got it! I want to write about the Harappans. My first blog entry touched on them, I believe

So it is written, so it shall be done.
